Riot grrrl pioneers Bikini Kill emerged from Olympia, Washington in 1990, making waves in the male-dominated indie rock scene with their radical feminist lyrics and fierce live performances. Though brief, their time together yielded the release of two full-length albums (Pussy Whipped, 1993, and Reject All American, 1996), several EPs, and two compilations. The group is often credited as a major influence on several female artists that emerged throughout the late 1990s and beyond, having empowered an entire generation of women in rock and roll. Bikini Kill disbanded in 1997, briefly reuniting 20 years later in 2017.
